The Slater City Council approved a bill to apply for a Region F Grant that would help cover the cost of picnic tables and benches for the park and other city systems during its meeting on Monday, May 22.
City Administrator Gene Griffith reported that the city was interested in ten benches, ten picnic tables, and three ADA picnic tables made out of recycled materials. The total cost of the project would be $20,300, with the grant covering 80 percent of that cost, leaving the city to pick up the remaining $4,000. The council approved a motion to submit for the grant.
In other news, Mayor Terry Jordan made an announcement regarding park bathrooms. Jordan reported that the bathrooms are being locked up every night due to damage the bathrooms have received during the overnight hours. Jordan also reported the city is in the process of installing security cameras at the park.
The park bathrooms are open during the day, from around 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
