Dr. James Farrell “Doc” Musgraves, 89, of Marshall, MO, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Fitzgibbon Hospital.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall.  Burial with military rites will follow in Sunset Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to family choice in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home, and an online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com

 

Born July 21, 1934, in Advance, MO, he was the son of the late Emanuel and Verda Norman Musgraves. Doc lived in Marshall most of his life and was a 1952 graduate of Marshall High School.  He served in the Korean War and was the youngest master sergeant at the age of 21. He attended Missouri Valley College where he studied pre-med. Doc furthered his studies and graduated from Southern College of Optometry in 1961 where he was the top of his class. Doc was the first ophthalmologist to prescribe prescription drugs in the state of Missouri.

 

Dr. James F. Musgraves started his optometric practice in Sweet Springs in 1962, and then started his additional eye care practices in Slater and Marshall, retiring in 2014. Doc enjoyed helping many individuals with their eye care throughout his career. Doc was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, served on the Marshall Police board, and also served on the Chamber of Commerce board throughout his career.

 

Doc married Pamela Sue on June 2, 2014, who survives of the home. He attended First Baptist Church with his wife Pam.

 

Doc was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Vivian A. Musgraves Rometti and Vernice L. “Bunny” Musgraves Howard.

 

He is survived by his wife, Pam Musgraves, his son Tim  Musgraves (Gayle) of Marshall; his daughters, Rene (Jeff) Alexander of Gladstone and Amber Broyles (Michael) of Carrollton; and grandchildren Jacob Alexander, Sarah Alexander, Korbyn Broyles, and Amrea Broyles.
