The Saline County Composite Squadron of the United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol hosted the annual Memorial Day Observance Service on the Marshall Square on Monday, May 27.
Following the presentation of the colors, Commander of the local Saline County Composite Squadron, Captain Sharae Kelley, delivered her speech and encouraged everyone to remember the sacrifices of the men and women who served.
There were presentations from the Marshall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.
Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day to honor those who were lost in the Civil War, but it was changed after World War 1 to commemorate American military personnel who died in all wars. Memorial Day became an official federal holiday in 1971.
