The Johnson County Commission renewed its cooperative agreement for animal shelter operations for 2024.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the commission signed off on continuing their agreement with Old Drum Animal Shelter, retroactive to the beginning of the year. Presiding Commissioner Troy Matthews says operations continued as normal while the shelter and commission worked on this year’s agreement.

Matthews says the shelter handles close to 200 animals. The agreement is in effect until December 31st, with the option to extend it into 2025 and 2026.
