The Missouri Public Service Commission approved an electric territorial agreement Thursday between Howard Electric Cooperative and the City of Fayette.

The joint application designates the boundaries of exclusive electric service areas for both electric service providers. Under the agreement, Howard Electric Cooperative will become the exclusive electric provider for a tract of land just southeast of Fayette on Route 240. The agreement will not involve an exchange of customers or facilities between the two providers. Commissioners say that the agreement is not detrimental to the public interest, in that it should prevent future installations of duplicative electric service facilities, thus enhancing public safety and community aesthetics.
