The Cardinals fell into a hole early and could not recover in Philadelphia, falling 6-1 to the Phillies on Saturday night.

Three of Sonny Gray’s four earned runs were given up in the first inning, after Alex Bohm and Nick Castellanos both doubled in runs. The Phillies added one in the third and a two-run home run from Bryce Harper in the seventh. St Louis’ offense was limited to a sacrifice fly by Masyn Winn that scored Nolan Gorman. Gray suffered his third loss on the year despite striking out ten. Spencer Turnbull picked up the win in three innings of relief, striking out six while not allowing a run or hit.

The Redbirds are now 27-29, seven games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central. They’ll wrap up the series this evening, with first pitch from Citizens Bank Park at 6:10.
