
John Carl Harris, 63, of Sweet Springs, formerly of Slater, died Friday, May 31, 2024 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Weiker Funeral Home, with Rev. Kayla Meredith officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, with Grant Driskell, Tyler Driskell, Sydney Thurman, Bill Leimkuehler, John Burris, and B.J. Sullivan serving as pallbearers; and Bud Summers and James Harris serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. at Weiker Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Big Bend Retreat in care of the funeral home.
Born January 24, 1961 in Marshall, he was the son of the late Terry M. Harris and Barbara Sue Gibbons Thurman.
He is survived by a brother, Harold Thurman of Slater; two sisters, Terry Lynn Moorehead of Kansas City, and Mary Lou Driskell and her husband Clark of Marshall; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Harris was a member of the Midway Baptist Church, and was a 1979 graduate of Slater High School. He belonged to People First of Marshall, and had worked at Big Bend Retreat in Slater, Taco Bell in Marshall, and helped Terry Harris farm.
