The Houston Astros pummeled the St Louis Cardinals with four runs in the third, en route to an 8-5 Cardinals loss Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park.

Alex Burleson got the Cardinals on the board first with a solo home run in the top of the first, but Houston responded with back-to-back groundouts that scored runs. A Jeremy Peña double and three-run home run by Yainer Diaz opened the game up for Houston in the third, with insurance runs added in the fourth and seventh. The Cardinals attempted a comeback with a run in the fourth and two in the sixth, along with Masyn Winn’s third home run of the season in the seventh.

Cardinals starter Andre Pallante took the loss, with six earned runs in three innings, allowing six hits and three walks but striking out one. Tayler Scott recorded the win with two innings out of the bullpen, yielding one earned run and three hits, while Ryan Pressly claimed his first save of the season.

The Cardinals are now 28-31, seven games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central.  They’ll look to avoid the sweep by Houston this afternoon, with first pitch at 1:10.
