The Slater City Council voted to amend the city’s fireworks ordinance for the Independence Day Holiday during its meeting on Tuesday, June 5.

The current city ordinance allows residents to shoot fireworks up to July 5, however, some council members recommended extending the ordinance to July 6 to allow residents to celebrate the holiday on the Saturday following July 4.

This amendment will be approved for 2024 only. Slater residents can begin shooting fireworks on June 20. Fireworks can be shot each day from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., until Saturday, July 6. The ordinance prohibits residents from shooting fireworks on Sundays.

In other news, the council approved an appointment to the Library Board. The council approved a recommendation to re-appoint Carol Coltharp to that board.
