The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a pair of accidents Thursday in Lafayette County.
A pair of motorcycles from Kansas collided just before noon on Route 23 at Chiefs Avenue just outside Alma. Troopers say 43-year-old Earl Voss of Gardner slowed down to make the turn from the northbound lane when he was struck from behind by the motorcycle driven by 61-year-old Stanley Wheatley of Osawatomie. Wheatley suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Kansas City area hospital. Voss sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to an Independence hospital.
Troopers also responded to a one-vehicle accident around 5:20 p.m. north of Odessa on Route 131. According to the accident report, 32-year-old Emily Fowler of Odessa was driving south on the highway, when she missed the curve south of Mulberry Road and went off the right side of the roadway. Fowler overcorrected, striking an embankment and tree before overturning. Troopers say Fowler was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from her car. She was flown to a Liberty hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
