The Kansas City Royals had one of their worst outings of the season Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium, as the New York Yankees trounced the Royals 10-1.

The Yankees jumped out of the gate early, with a triple from lead-off hitter Anthony Volpe in the first eventually leading to two runs. They would added four more runs in the fourth, including a three-run home run by Austin Wells, a run in the sixth off two fielding errors, and home runs in the seventh from Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. The Royals’ only run came off the bat of Freddy Fermin, a solo home run with one out in the eighth.

Brady Singer took the loss but went 5.2 innings, allowing six earned runs off seven hits and one walk, while striking out six. First baseman Nick Pratto, who had just been called up from Omaha, pitched a scoreless ninth inning with one hit and one strikeout.

The Royals are now 39-29, 5.5 games behind Cleveland in the AL Central. Game three of the four-game series against the Yankees is tonight at The K, with first pitch at 7:10. Pregame begins at 6:30 on KMMO.
