Missouri high schools participating in organized e-sports rejected a measure to bring the activity entirely under the jurisdiction of the Missouri State High School Activities Association.

The proposal was defeated by a 41-29 margin, the only one of the 17 ballot measures that member schools rejected. MSHSAA Communications Director Jason West says the result will keep e-sports as an emerging activity with no state championship series.

Ballot measures were ratified Thursday by the MSHSAA Board of Directors. Among the approved changes were the elimination of the 250-mile limit on out of state travel, changes to how a student can use their name, image and likeness while retaining their eligibility, and moving the start of all sports seasons one day earlier.
