A three-run home run by Cubs outfielder Ian Happ put Saturday afternoon’s game out of reach, as the St Louis Cardinals lost 5-1 at Wrigley Field.

The Redbirds had the first run of the game in the fourth, when Nolan Arenado’s sacrifice fly scored Alec Burleson. That would be St Louis’ only run of the day, as the Cubs would immediately plate two in the bottom frame. Cody Bellinger scored on a fielding error by reliever Chris Roycroft, and Seiya Suzuki plated the go-ahead run for the Cubs on Dansby Swanson’s groundout. Andre Pallante took the loss for the Cardinals, going 3.1 innings with one earned run and five hits with four strikeouts. Shota Imanaga picked up the win with one run and four hits along with six strikeouts.

The Cardinals remain second in the NL Central with a 34-35 mark, six-and-a-half games behind Milwaukee. The series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field concludes this afternoon at 12:05.
