Texas A&M plated five runs in the third to torch top-seeded Tennessee 9-5 on Saturday night at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
The Aggies claimed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a leadoff home run and a single. Tennessee halved the lead in the bottom half, but lost control of the game when A&M hit three singles to score four runs, and also scored on a throwing error. The Volunteers attempted a comeback with three runs in the seventh, but the Aggies’ pitching staff combined for 17 strikeouts to keep Tennessee at bay.
The Aggies lead the best-of-three series and can clinch their first national title Sunday afternoon. Pregame is at 1:45 with first pitch at 2 p.m., and KMMO AM 1300 will have Westwood One’s coverage of the game.
