The Kansas City Royals were shutout for the third time this season, as the offense was non-existent in a 6-0 loss at the Texas Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
The Royals only advanced one runner into scoring position, doing so in the third inning with two outs. The Rangers got on the board in the following inning, with a solo home run by Josh Smith. That was the only score until the eighth, when a fielder’s choice allowed one run to score, followed by reliever Angel Zerpa giving up a grand slam to Wyatt Langford.
Michael Wacha took the loss in his first start since injuring his foot last month against San Diego. Wacha allowed just one run in five innings of work, along with three hits and a walk while striking out five.
The Royals have dropped their fourth straight series, falling to 42-36. That has them in third in the AL Central and more critically, just a half-game ahead of Boston for the third and final wild card spot. The Royals look to avoid the sweep Sunday afternoon, with first pitch from Globe Life Field at 1:35. Pregame will be at 1 p.m. on KMMO FM 102.9.
