Marshall’s city council approved a resolution last week clearing the way for asbestos removal from one of the state hospital’s last standing structures.
The council agreed to the plan presented by Gehm Environmental for asbestos removal later this summer. Mayor Vince Lutterbie says the city is eager to complete the demolition process.
Lutterbie says the city wants to move quickly, as to avoid the demolition process impacting nearby Spainhower Primary.
The state hospital campus opened in 1908 and operated on the site for nearly 110 years. The demolition process began in 2021.
