The Kansas City Current extended their NWSL-record unbeaten streak to 17, dunking the Houston Dash 2-0 on Friday night at CPKC Stadium.
Temwa Chawinga netted both goals for the Current, taking the lead in the league’s Golden Boot standings with 11 goals. That’s also a club record with 11 games remaining in the season. Chawinga’s goals came after a scoreless first half which featured the Malawian forward sending a shot in the 26th minute out of the stadium and into the Missouri River, the first recorded instance at the new venue.
The Current remain in first with 35 points, with the Orlando Pride yet to play this weekend. The Current and Pride will meet for the first time this season July 6th at 6:30.
