Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr announced Monday that he’ll compete in this year’s Home Run Derby, ahead of next week’s All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas.
Witt is the fourth player set to compete in this year’s event, having belted 15 home runs this season to go with his 25 doubles, nine triples, and 22 stolen bases. Witt will be the fifth Royal to take part in the contest, following in the footsteps of Salvador Perez, who competed in the 2021 edition but was bested in the opening round by the Mets’ Pete Alonzo. Alonzo will again compete in this year’s derby, as will Alec Bohm of the Phillies and Gunnar Henderson of the Orioles. The Braves’ Marcell Ozuna is also joining the derby.
