The St Louis Cardinals wrapped up their road trip with a 6-0 shutout of the Washington Nationals on Monday afternoon in DC.

The Redbirds picked up their first run in the third, when a throwing error on an attempted double play brought home Nolan Gorman. Paul Goldschmidt and Alec Burleson tallied solo home runs, while Brendan Donovan added an RBI double in the eighth and Burleson had two RBIs from a single in the ninth. Miles Mikolas went 6.1 innings, allowing six hits while striking out three.

The win moves the Cardinals one game ahead of San Diego for the second wild card spot. Their record of 48-42 now has the Redbirds 4.5 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central. After going 5-2 on the road trip, the Cardinals are back at Busch Stadium for the start of a two-game series against the Kansas City Royals. Former Cardinal Michael Wacha will start for the Royals, while St Louis is slated to have Andre Pallante take the mound. First pitch is at 6:45, with pregame from the Royals Radio Natwork at 6 p.m. on KMMO.
