Norma Jean (Riggle) Warner, age 89, of Carrollton, MO passed away with her family by her side, Friday, July 5, 2024.
She was born near Dawn, MO, the daughter of John Worick and Tina Jane (Lewis) Riggle, March 3, 1935. She was the youngest of seven children and the only girl. The family moved to Carrollton when she was just a year old.
Norma started her working career at the age of 12, she started working in a local laundry, and the Minute Inn (where she learned to make the best hamburgers). In high school she worked at the Weinhold’s General Store and Smith’s Drug Store. After high school Norma got a job at the Carrollton Democrat. She stayed with that job until 2017 when she retired, for a total of 64 years. Norma did the composition of the paper, typing the articles and placing them on pages to get it ready for print. In 1970, she started delivering the newspapers and buyers guides until her retirement. She dearly loved the newspaper delivery, it didn’t matter what the weather was like, after her retirement that was the part she truly missed. Norma also delivered the Kansas City Star after Dee started driving truck. She also helped out at her daughter’s print shop.
After retirement Norma lived in a tiny house that was built just for her, she loved to sit on the porch and watch the wildlife and hummingbirds. Norma loved to pick out pecans, she could sit for hours and pick them out. Her favorite flower was the iris, she planted them all around her porch and just couldn’t wait for them to bloom each year. There were planters on her porch with various flowers that she lovingly tended. Norma loved for anyone to come sit on the porch and swing with her.
