Thomas Andrew Krause, known affectionately as Tom, passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2024, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 61. Born on December 1, 1962, in Lexington, Missouri, Tom was the cherished son of the late Geraldine “Jerry” (Dierking) and Orville “Jack” Krause.
Tom graduated from Sweet Springs High School in 1981, before earning his degree from Westminster College in 1985, and later, his law degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Law in 1988. He embarked on a distinguished career as an attorney, working at various private firms across locations such as Lake of the Ozarks, Boise, Idaho, and St. Louis, Missouri. At the time of his passing, he was serving diligently as section chief with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in Dallas, Texas, where he was appreciated for his wit, work ethic and friendship to his colleagues.
A man of deep faith, Tom was a devoted member of St. John United Church of Christ in Emma, Missouri. He was confirmed there as a teenager and continued to worship at his home church whenever he could. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, providing him with strength and comfort throughout his life.
Tom’s passions extended beyond his professional and spiritual life. He was an avid fisherman and an occasional hunter, often traveling to exotic locations to indulge in these pursuits. His skills as a woodworker were well-known among his family and friends, and he had a keen eye for antiques and unique treasures. Tom delighted in the joy of giving, known for his unusual and generous Christmas gifts and his hand-drawn cards, which were eagerly anticipated by those close to him. Of special meaning to Tom was the family farm, known as “the 40.” Tom was a good and loyal steward to the Krause Centennial Farm property, and took pride in his work on it. He spent many of his vacation days working on the land, locked in an everlasting battle with the beavers; at the time of his death the beavers were winning that battle.
Tom is survived by his partner, Dorrine DeChant; sister, Kathy Pittman and her husband Larry; sister-in-law, Susie Krause; nephews, Zachary Getty and his wife Allison, Alex Krause, and Zachary Pittman; nieces, Emily Krause and her partner Cory Calhoon, Mallory Pittman-Cotner and her husband Derick Cotner; and great-nieces, Eloise Krause, Rose Getty, and Layla Cotner. Tom is also survived by many cousins and second-cousins from both sides of the family, all of whom he enjoyed. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mark Krause.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at St. John United Church of Christ in Emma, MO, with Pastor Josh Payne officiating.
