Sporting Kansas City continue their quest for a fifth U.S. Open Cup title when they host FC Dallas on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Children’s Mercy Park, three days removed from beating them in MLS play.
SKC defeated Dallas on Sunday night behind two first-half goals from Willie Agada and the game-winner in the 82nd minute from Memo Rodriguez. The franchise picked up wins earlier in the Open Cup over lower-division sides Union Omaha and FC Tulsa, while Dallas claimed wins off Memphis 901 FC and the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The two teams founded by Lamar Hunt have faced off five times in the competition now named for Hunt, with Sporting victorious in all five matches.
The winner will host Indy Eleven of the USL Championship, who upset Atlanta United last night 2-1. The other semifinal will see the Seattle Sounders host the winner of tonight’s other quarterfinal, Los Angeles FC and New Mexico United. The semifinals are scheduled for the week of Aug. 26th, with the finals scheduled for Sept. 25th.
