Sporting Kansas City defended their turf against FC Dallas for the second time in four nights, picking up a 2-1 victory in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals on Wednesday night.
The contest at Children’s Mercy Park was scoreless until the 77th minute when Willie Agada opened the scoring for the hosts. That lead would only last nine minutes, when Dallas’ Petar Musa netted the equalizer. The match went into extra time, where in the 111th minute, defender Dany Rosero converted the assist from Sporting captain Johnny Russell to keep SKC perfect against Dallas in U.S. Open Cup play.
Sporting KC will host Indy Eleven in the U.S. Open Cup semifinals, set for either Aug. 27th or 28th. The other semifinal will feature the Seattle Sounders hosting Los Angeles FC. Until then, the MLS season continues with Sporting visiting last-place San Jose on Saturday evening.
