The Kansas City Royals were shut out Saturday afternoon, falling to the Boston Red Sox 5-0 at Fenway Park.

Starter Seth Lugo gave up all five runs, including a double in the second, a double and single in the third with two outs, and a home run in the fifth to Rafael Devers. Lugo allowed ten hits and one walk while striking out six. Kutter Crawford limited the Royals to two hits in just over seven innings of work, striking out four while allowing one walk. Reliever Zack Kelly completed the game for Boston, striking out two. He allowed two hits with two outs in the ninth, but was able to keep the Royals off the board.

The loss has Kansas City once again a game behind Boston for the third wild card spot in the American League. At 52-44, the Royals trail Cleveland in the Central by seven games.

The deciding match of the three-game series is Sunday afternoon at 12:35, with pregame at noon on KMMO AM 1300.

After the game, the Royals completed a trade, acquiring right-handed reliever Hunter Harvey from the Washington Nationals. The Royals sent minor-league infielder Cayden Wallace to the Nationals, as well as a competitive balance pick in the 2024 MLB Draft that gets underway Sunday evening in Fort Worth.
