
Joan V. Hooper, 87, of California, MO. died Sunday July 14, 2024, at the California Care Center.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday July, 19, 2024, at the Missouri State Veterans’ Cemetery in Higginsville, MO, with William W. Harlow officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to family choice. An online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com.
Joan was born on June 22, 1937, in Ravenden, AR, to the late Otis T. Cotten and Gertie V. Matthews Cotten. On September 11, 1955, she married Fred Leon Hooper Sr. who preceded her in death on August 15, 2014. Joan spent most of her life in Concordia, MO. and worked at the Lutheran Good Shepherd Home for 15 years. She moved to Ashland, MO in 2013 to be near her family. She was a member of Berea Christian Church in rural Nelson, MO. Joan was an avid country music fan but her passion was always her family and friends and caring for others.
Survivors include one daughter, Paula Taylor (Junior) of Glen Saint Mary, FL; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters; Wanda Dempsey of Marshall, MO and Delores Nichols of Fortuna, MO; one brother, Leroy Cotten of Pine Beach, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Fred Leon Hooper Jr. on November 29, 2010; and one brother, Ernest Dewain Cotten on June 20, 2021.
