City crews in Brunswick continue to lead the cleanup effort after Tuesday’s straight-line winds and heavy rains caused significant damage to a number of buildings in the town.

One of the hardest-hit structures was the First Christian Church, whose congregation has met since 1850. Butch Schuchmann is a lifelong parishioner and reflects on when he arrived at the church shortly after Tuesday morning’s storm.

Schuchmann says the church building is the oldest in Brunswick.

Schuchman added that parts of the roof were found to the east of the church.

Schuchmann says a nearby baptist church has offered their building for joint services starting this weekend.

As cleanup continues from Tuesday’s storms, Brunswick residents still needing debris removal are asked to call City Hall at 660-548-3048 and describe the debris needing to be picked up, as well as your name, address and phone number. Brunswick City Hall will close at noon this Friday and reopen Monday at 8 a.m.
