Kansas City Royals starter Brady Singer struck out seven and kept the Chicago White Sox scoreless in seven innings of work, leading KC to a 6-1 win Saturday night at Kauffman Stadium.
The Royals once again staked an early lead, with three runs in the first and one in the second. A Salvador Perez single scored Vinnie Pasquantino, followed by Michael Massey’s first triple of the season. A Hunter Renfroe double scored Massey. Bobby Witt Jr made up for his being picked off in the first by driving a double to center field in the second to score Maikel Garcia. The Royals would pick up two runs in the eighth off bases-loaded walks after Andrew Benintendi brought in Chicago’s only run of the game.
Singer allowed five hits and two walks to pick up his sixth win of the season. Hunter Harvey made his Royals debut in the eighth, after being traded from Washington.
The Royals are now tied with Boston for the third wild card spot and six games behind Cleveland in the AL Central, with a 54-45 mark. Kansas City will seek the sweep of the MLB’s worst team Sunday afternoon, with first pitch at 1:10. Pregame begins at 12:30 on KMMO AM 1300.
