The City of Miami is preparing to welcome up to 500 competitors Tuesday evening for the annual MR340.
Miami is listed as a paddle stop on the race course, where canoers can take a break and replenish their supplies. City Clerk Liz Elson has helped with the race for 18 years and says community members turn out each year to support participants,
Elson says setup will begin in the afternoon, shortly after the race begins from Kaw Point in Kansas City, with the first participants arriving around 6 p.m.
Miami City Clerk Liz Elson says the community will also make breakfast for canoers passing through Wednesday morning.
Official race checkpoints at Waverly and Glasgow will also have amenities available for boaters, as will paddle stops in Lexington and Franklin Island, across from Boonville. Additional details about the MR340 are available on the race’s website.
