The St Louis Cardinals failed to muster a run, falling to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon, dropping two out of three at PNC Park.

Matthew Liberatore took the loss, giving up all five round over three innings of work.  He allowed four hits, three walks, and struck out three.  Chris Roycroft and Giovanni Gallegos combine for five scoreless innings out of the pen.  Masyn Winn had two of the Cardinals’ six hits on the day.  The Redbirds also drew nine walks but were unable to bring a run home.

The Cardinals fall to 53-49, six games back of Milwaukee in the NL Central.  They’re now tied with San Diego for the third wild card spot, a half-game behind the Mets.  Arizona and Pittsburgh are both within a game of the Cardinals.

St Louis have an off day Thursday before returning home to host the Washington Nationals for a three-game series.
