The Texas Rangers took advantage of an error to plate three runs in the seventh, sealing up a 6-3 win over the St Louis Cardinals on Monday night at Busch Stadium.
The Cardinals allowed the Rangers to score in the top of the third, but Matt Carpenter’s two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning put the Redbirds in the lead. That would be their only lead, as the Rangers reclaimed it in the fourth after an RBI single from Jonah Heim and groundout from Leody Taveras. The Rangers extended their lead after Marcus Semien scored on a fielding error in the seventh by Nolan Arenado. Nathaniel Lowe would capitalize with a two-run home run. The Cardinals were only able to get one run back by way of a Michael Siani single.
Andre Pallante took the loss, allowing three runs, seven hits and two walks while striking out five. Nathan Eovaldi collected his eighth win of the year for the Rangers.
The loss now has the Cardinals tied for second in the NL Central with Pittsburgh, two games behind the New York Mets and San Diego Padres in the wild card standings and seven games behind Milwaukee in the Central. The Diamondbacks are 1.5 games ahead of the Redbirds. Game two of the series against Texas is Tuesday at Busch Stadium, with first pitch at 6:45 p.m.
