A Marshall business is among several farms and businesses across Missouri that will receive grants and loans from USDA’s Rural Development office.

MarChloe Midwest is among 30 firms set to receive funds through the Rural Energy for America Program or “REAP”. The company will receive a $99,500 grant to purchase and install a 90.3 kilowatt solar array. USDA says the array is expected to collect enough energy to power 13 homes, saving $19,057 in energy costs each year.

Also receiving funds are Viebrock Farms. The poultry farm outside Stover will receive a grant totaling nearly $344,666, intended for the purchase of a 282.42 kilowatt solar array. When installed, the array should collect enough energy to power 36 homes and save $22,747 in energy costs per year. A beef cattle producer in Hallsville and hay producer in Pleasant Hill are also among the grant recipients, both seeking to building a wind turbine on their farms.

Four loans totaling $96.4 million will go to a pair of projects in Missouri. Sustainable Biogas Energy Company LLC will have two loans totaling $25 million to fund the upgrade of a gas collection system at a landfill in Southeast Missouri, including the installation of a renewable natural gas plant capable of powering 8,689 homes. Two more loans will fund the construction of solar farms in Audrain County, with the energy sold through Ameren Missouri’s grid to Google Energy LLC.
