Eleven veterans are being honored at the Missouri State Fair’s Military Flag Retreat Ceremonies.

One of those veterans is Marshall resident Charlie Guthrie, who served in the U.S. Navy in an active duty and reserve capacity for more than 20 years before retiring in 1996. Guthrie says he is honored to have been selected for the ceremony and is proud of his service to the nation.

Guthrie says he followed his father’s footsteps when joining the Navy in the 1970s. His career led him to serving on the USS Missouri. Guthrie encourages the younger generation to work hard and do the best job they can.

Guthrie’s ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, August 15, outside of the Historic Administration Building on the Missouri State Fairgrounds.
