The sign outside the former site of the Joseph W Arbisi Memorial Swimming Pool will make its way to family of the legendary Sedalia Smith-Cotton swim coach, following action taken Monday night by the district’s school board.
As part of the consent agenda items, the board of education agreed to give to the Arbisi family the lettering that once adorned the pool at Sedalia Middle School. Superintendent Dr Todd Fraley says Arbisi’s name lives on in the community.
The district has since converted the former pool into a multi-purpose area, as part of the first phase of renovations to the middle school. Fraley notes that the board approved a pair of change orders, including the replacement of the middle school gym’s original basketball goals and intercoms for a secured entryway.
Sedalia’s school board learned during Monday’s meeting that the district would soon put out for bid the second phase of improvements to the middle school as well as improvements to Smith-Cotton Junior High, at a targeted price tag of $7.2 million.
