
Marcella Elizabeth Young, 101, of Slater, died Monday, August 5, 2024 at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, with Fr. Francis Doyle officiating. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery, with Ryan Harris, Jake Young, Lucas Johnson, Meghan Arana, Lacey Kaser, and Jake Clements serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be Friday at 10:00 A.M., followed by the recitation of the Rosary at 10:45 A.M. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Altar & Rosary Sodality or Big Bend Retreat in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born February 19, 1923 in Chariton County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. Brucks, Sr. and Anna Schutte Brucks. On June 14, 1943 at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Kansas City, she married Harold V. Young, and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1992.
Survivors include her children, Darlene Harris of Lenexa, Kansas, Wayne Young and his wife Melissa of St. Charles, Missouri, and Nancy Clements and her husband Alan of Miami; six grandchildren, Meghan Arana of Eureka, Missouri, Ryan Harris of Olathe, Kansas, Jake Young of St. Charles, Missouri, Lucas Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri, Lacey Kaser of Platte City, Missouri, and Jake Clements of Miami; and eleven great-grandchildren, Brantley Kloepful, Everleigh Johnson, Sophia Arana, Teddy Arana, Garrett Young, Amelia Young, Finley Kaser, Ellie Kaser, Jonathon Clements, McKinnah Clements, and Rocky Clements. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Rodney Jackson; two brothers, Joseph B. Brucks, Jr., and George Brucks; and two sisters, Marjorie Farley and Anna Stallman.
Mrs. Young was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, and the Altar & Rosary Sodality. In 1942, she moved to Kansas City, and worked for Hallmark Cards. In 1951, she moved to Slater, and was a homemaker, and worked at the Marshall Habilitation Center for eighteen years until her retirement. She was a devout Catholic, and a wonderful mother, who was always there when her family needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and an abundance of love. Marcella was a friend to many, and will leave behind a legacy of kindness and strength.
