The New York Mets made themselves at home against the St Louis Cardinals on Monday night, shutting out the Redbirds 6-0 to complete the series sweep.
The make-up game from May saw the Mets get on the board after a wild pitch in the second from Andre Pallante. The fifth inning was ultimately Pallante’s undoing, as former Cardinal Harrison Bader brought in a run on a double, then was among the three runs scored on the bases-clearing double by Tyrone Taylor. Jeff McNeil added a home run in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Pallante went 4.2 innings in the loss, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out two.
The Cardinals fall to 57-56, six games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central and tied with Pittsburgh for second in the division. Both the Cardinals and Pirates are four games behind in the wild card chase, which is now a three-way tie between Arizona, Atlanta and San Diego. The Tampa Bay Rays make their way to Busch Stadium for the start of a three-game series. First pitch is at 6:45.
