The Marshall City Council accepted a bid Tuesday night to demolish an unsound structure on South Miami.

The council voted 6-0 at their regular meeting to accept the low bid from Gary Morrow for $8950 to demolish a residence near the intersection with West Morgan. Mayor Vince Lutterbie recapped the decision, as well as progress on a higher profile demolition project in the city.

City Administrator JD Kehrman also provided an update on the demolition of the former location of Mid-Missouri Family Health. Kehrman reported that the building’s owner had signed a deal to bring the remainder of the building down, and that he was expecting a formal permit application within a week.

As for the rest of the Marshall square, the council voted to provide funding to Marshall’s Main Street USA project. Lutterbie says it will take about two years for the group to establish itself with the nationwide program.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the Marshall City Council approved the second reading of an ordinance executing the state block grant agreement to fund improvements to the Marshall Municipal Airport, and agreed to an event request for Bud’s Cafe to host a street party on September 21st.
