A De Witt man has been charged after the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic disturbance on August 8.

According to a probably cause statement, deputies were called to an address in rural De Witt for a domestic disturbance involving Richard Tietjens. Tietjens was allegedly terrorizing several victims and made threats to kill them as well.

Several of the victims were reportedly assaulted by Tietjens after he smacked them in the face. Tietjens also committed over $5,000 in property damage to the residence, which included destroying a sliding glass door, a kitchen table, and a landline phone. It was reported that Tietjens also stole over $500 before taking one of the victim’s car to drive to another residence.

Tietjens entered the second residence without permission and also reportedly committed more than $5,000 of damage to the property.

Deputies located Tietjens driving in Carroll County, where a pursuit ensued on Highway 24 in the De Witt area. Tietjens eventually abandoned the car and fled on foot, where another chase ensued. The suspect was finally located after deputies called in K9 support. Tietjens was taken into custody after the manhunt.

Tietjens has been charged with two felonies for domestic assault in the third degree, three for property damage in the first degree, and one stealing a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. No bond has been allowed.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Chariton County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and Brookfield Police Department were all involved in apprehending Tietjens.
