The St Louis Cardinals fell behind early and couldn’t find much offense, as the Cincinnati Reds limited the Redbirds to four hits in a 4-1 loss Tuesday night at Great American Ballpark.

Spencer Steer was again a thorn in the Cardinals’ side, as he recorded the game’s first RBI by way of a single to center field in the first inning. Ty France homered in the second, as did Jeimer Candelario in the sixth. The Cardinals’ only run came off Nolan Arenado’s bat in the seventh, his 12th home run of the season.

Erich Fedde was again roughed up on the road, tagged with four runs and six hits in six innings of work, allowing two walks while striking out a pair. Hunter Greene picked up the win for Cincinnati.

St Louis are back at .500 with a 60-60 record, 7.5 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central and 3.5 games behind Atlanta for the third wild card spot. The Cardinals hope to avoid a sweep Wednesday evening at 5:40, when Kyle Gibson gets the start against Emilio Pagán.
