The Slater City Council voted to move forward with a proposal from Evergy to build a solar farm in the city limits during its meeting on Tuesday, August 20.
The council heard a presentation from Evergy during its meeting on July 16. A preliminary design of the farm shows it would be about ten acres in size and would be built on land behind the Clarcor Inc. warehouse in Slater. The solar farm would help offset some of the costs of the city’s current contract with Evergy. City Administrator Gene Griffith said construction of the plant would not begin until 2025.
In other news, the council approved a bid from Tech Team for security cameras at the city’s parks. The bid came out to about $4,000 for every camera that would be installed.
