The Boonville City Council approved both readings of an ordinance establishing the tax levy for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 on Monday, August 19.
The council reviewed the proposed rate, which remains unchanged for the third year in a row. The General Revenue rate is set at $.7035 per $100 valuation.
The council did hold a discussion about whether to lower the rate, but City Administrator Kate Fjell explained there would be some risk in doing so.
After more discussion, the council agreed to approve the tax levy and discuss potentially lowering it at future budgetary meetings.
In other news, the council approved a resolution to suspend the city’s open container prohibition for the Sippin’, Strollin’, Rockin’, and Rollin’ event, which will be held in Downtown Boonville on Saturday, September 28. The event will be held from 3 to 10 p.m. and feature beverage vendors and live music.
