Born November 18, 1954, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Alwood G. “Bud” Meyer and Essie Mae Heying Meyer. Ed graduated from Malta Bend High School in 1972 and then earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Missouri Valley College in 1976. While at MVC he participated in track and field where he was a shot-putter. On June 4, 1977, he married Cynthia “Cindy” Arthur who survives of the home. Ed taught high school and coached at Sweet Springs High School, then worked as a sales representative for Dolly Madison Cakes. He then worked for over 25 years for the Higginsville Habilitation Center and retired as a unit program supervisor. He really enjoyed working with all the staff and clients throughout those years. Ed was always active in the community and was a member of First Baptist Church in Marshall where he had served as Sunday School Director, a member of the Optimist Club having served as president and Lt. Governor, as well as serving as a baseball umpire and helping at the concession stand. In addition to the local youth sports, he was an avid Mizzou football fan and a proud Green Bay Packer fan.
Ed was blessed to have 6 incredible bonus years because of the gift of organ donation. Ed’s donor, Matthew Bishop, and his family, Dewey, Kristy and Melissa, became an integral part of the Meyer family and will forever have a special place in their hearts because of their donation. Please consider giving the gift of life through organ donation.
