
Marty Russell Elsea 74, of Sweet Springs, MO, died Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 30th, 2024 at First Christian Church in Sweet Springs, MO, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Leigh Hartley will officiate. Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery Sweet Springs, with full military rites. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or Sweet Springs American Legion Post 279. Marty was born in Marshall, MO, on April 2, 1950, to the late Marvin Franklin and Polly (Lemmons) Elsea. He married Cynthia Erdman on August 4, 1973 and she survives of the home. He graduated from Santa Fe High School in Alma, MO. Marty was a member of the First Christian Church in Sweet Springs, Sweet Springs American Legion Post #279 and Concordia V.F.W. Post 5649. He was a proud U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran of the 101st Airborne Division. Marty had a 40-year career with United Telephone Co. and loved working on the farm, his cattle and working on his machinery. He will be well remembered for his love of teasing, his quick wit and his humor. Above everything, Marty loved his family. His wife, sons and grandsons meant so much to him and he loved them with all he had. Marty will be dearly missed.
Marty is survived by his wife, Cindy; two sons, Brendon Elsea and Jared Elsea (Cindi) all of Sweet Springs; two grandsons, Degan and Ryker Elsea; two sisters, Ruby Zimmerschied (Dennis) Blackburn, MO and Jolene Studer (Jim) of Waterville, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Donna Sue McCaslin, Elnora Crider and Van Elsea.
