The Kansas City Royals got back in the win column with a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Monday, August 26.

The Guardians struck first, scoring two runs against Cole Ragans in the second inning. Ragans would exit the game in the fifth after dealing with a cramp. He ended his outing by going four innings, allowing two runs (one earned), three hits and four walks, while striking out four.

MJ Melendez put Kansas City on top with a three run home run in the fourth. It stayed that way until the seventh, when Josh Naylor tied the game with an RBI single. That set the stage for Bobby Witt Jr. to hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth, giving the Royals a 4-3 lead. It was his 27th homer of the season.

Lucas Erceg pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.

The Royals improve to 73-58 and sit two games back of Cleveland heading into the second game of the doubleheader.

First pitch is at 5:40 p.m.
