
A pair of area governments are convening special sessions Tuesday, including one to consider a ballot measure for November’s general election.
The Saline County Commission will go into special session at 11 a.m. in Marshall to weigh in on a petition calling for property tax credits for the county’s residents aged 62 and older. The commission has already placed a measure on the Nov. 5 ballot. However, 490 voters have signed a separate petition calling for the same. Today is the deadline to certify what measures and candidates appear on the Nov. 5 ballot.
The Marceline City Council will conduct a special session Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. in the public safety building on East Santa Fe. The council will consider their tax levy for 2024, consider whether to continue installing a dome over the city pool in the winter. A natural gas agreement renewal for the pool and in-field verification services agreement are also on the agenda.
Meanwhile, the Slater School Board has its regular meeting Tuesday afternoon at 4:30, with the board expected to receive an update from the four-day school week committee. The board will also consider a vehicle purchase and a vocational school agreement. The Marshall Public Schools Board of Education will meet for their regular session Tuesday afternoon at 6 p.m. in the Cafeteria at the Tom Butterfield Early Childhood Center. Board members are expected to receive an update on construction projects from Nabholz Construction, and consider updates to district policies and a new accounting manual.
