The Kansas City Royals fell to the Cleveland Guardians 7-5 after a late-inning collapse on Wednesday, August 28.

The Royals were in control early, scoring two runs in the first inning off solo shots from Michael Massey and Vinnie Pasquantino. bobby Witt Jr. joined in on the fun with his 28th homer of the year. Kansas City scored its last two runs in the sixth inning off of RBI singles from Adam Frazier and MJ Melendez.

Leading 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Micheal Wacha ran into some trouble and failed to record an out as the Guardians plated four runs to take the lead. Wacha finished the day pitching six innings, giving up five runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts. The Guardians scored another run in the eighth to add to the lead. Lucas Erceg and Chris Stratton both gave up runs in their lone innings of work.

The Royals fall a game back of Cleveland in the AL Central with a 75-59 record. Kansas City currently holds a three game advantage over the Minnesota Twins ahead of their game against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday (today).

The Royals are back in action on Thursday, August 29 to take on the AL West leading Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.
