A Sedalia man suffered serious injuries after his tractor trailer went off an interstate early Wednesday morning and struck a bridge pillar.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred around 12:15 a.m. in North Central Missouri, on Interstate 35 about three miles north of Bethany. Troopers say that the semi driven by 23-year-old Nicholas Anders was heading southbound on the interstate when he went off the right side of the roadway, striking a guardrail and concrete barrier before hitting a bridge pillar. Anders was taken to a Kansas City hospital.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed the bridge carrying 280th Street over the interstate, pending inspection of the damage.
