The Kansas City Current has acquired the skills of defender Kayla Sharples in a trade with expansion side Bay FC.
Sharples has appeared in 15 games this season for Bay FC, leading the club with 14 interceptions while ranking sixth in the NWSL with 16 blocks. Sharples has appeared in 50 league games since she was first drafted in 2019 by Chicago, and played collegiately at Northwestern.
As part of the deal, the Current have sent goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz to the west coast. Silkowitz was drafted last year from Iowa State but was on loan to Australia’s Brisbane Roar. The Current had recently signed German keeper Almuth Schult to the roster.
