The Lexington City Council voted to delay a public hearing on the fate of police chief Troy Sims.

The decision to delay the hearing, initially called for the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 29th came at the recommendation of city attorney Todd Smith, who cited capacity issues at City Hall:

According to video posted on the city’s Facebook page, the council agreed to a motion to postpone the hearing to Sept. 11 at The Lex auditorium. A public notice about Wednesday’s hearing stated that no public comment or audience participation would take place, as courtroom decorum would be enforced.

KMMO News has reached out to the City of Lexington for comment.  City administrator Shawnna Funderburk tells KMMO that under state statute, allegations against Chief Sims cannot be made public until the hearing.
