The Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works approved its Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget during its meeting on Thursday, August 29.
The board has spent previous meeting and work sessions updating and making changes to the budget. The budget includes all capital projects budgeted for the next fiscal year. Each of the projects will still go back to the board for approval before they start or any expense is incurred. After some discussion, the board approved the budget as presented.
In other news, the board voted to remove the electric cost adjustment of -7.5 percent, effective October 1, 2024. The board approved this cost adjustment in June of 2020 to lower electric cash reserves and assist the Marshall community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The board is interested in removing it due to increased costs with transportation and equipment. The board says the removal of the cost adjustment will increase revenue by an estimated $1.3 million annually.
