An early morning break-in south of Sedalia resulted in the shooting death of one person.

Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders announced via Facebook on Friday, Aug. 30 that deputies had initially received reports around 1 a.m. of an accident near the intersection of Anderson School Road and Shire Lane. About ten minutes later, as deputies were en route, another call from the area came in, reporting a burglary in progress. Upon their arrival, deputies found the rear door of a residence forcibly entered and the unknown intruder had been shot by the homeowner. The intruder was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s department is withholding names pending the notification of next of kin. Their investigation is ongoing.
